PMI

PMI is an association of young business owners that specifically operates in the shrimp farming industry. It was started in 2015 by Rizky Darmawan and Reynard Suharja during an international aquaculture event in Surabaya, Indonesia.

PMI-held events and other aquaculturerelated occasions helps us to grow in numbers and futher strengthen our unity in the shrimp industry.

WORDS FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Petambak Muda Indonesia (PMI) as an association started from a mutual understanding that shrimp farming practices are exceptionally interconnected between each individual. We felt that it would be beneficial to assemble and form an specifically-focused association to accommodates to the industry’s welfare. As colleagues that has been trusted by our fellow peers to run the organization, we strive to optimize the potentials of all members in their own farm. Our goal is to support not just shrimp culture, but any other sectors that are connected to us as a whole.

Education & Sustainable Practices

Elevate the aquaculture industry by facilitating comprehensive education, prioritizing sustainable and responsible farming methods to ensure both environmental and economic longevity.

Industry Consolidation

Bridge the fragmentation gap prevalent in the aquaculture sector by promoting knowledge exchange and collaboration, aiming to achieve the level of consolidation witnessed in land-based protein cultures.

Investor Support &
Guidance

Act as the primary source of holistic industry knowledge for potential investors, ensuring they're not limited to single-farmer mentorships, and thereby increasing their likelihood of success within the industry.

Global Narratives &
Technological Advancements

Stay updated with and disseminate the latest in global narratives, emerging technologies, and sustainable practices. Through active communication and knowledge-sharing, foster an ecosystem where aquaculture thrives and failure rates plummet.

2023: Formation & Support

- Begin a reformation phase with an emphasis on increased industry support.
- Establish a more formal organization structure; make membership compulsory to access PMI benefits.

2024: Expanding Benefits & Global Exposure

- Offer paid workshops and mentoring sessions to members.
- Organize frequent field trips, including at least one local and one overseas trip to countries like Malaysia, Ecuador, Belize, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, and potentially New Caledonia to gain insights on global farming systems.
- Initiate communication with sister associations in Southeast Asia for knowledge and information exchange.
- Begin expansion of PMI to countries such as Thailand and Vietnam.

2025: Collaborations & Investor Launchpad

- Collaborate with international stakeholders to educate the industry.
- Launch a mentorship program and develop a comprehensive syllabus.
- Position PMI as a definitive launchpad for new investors entering the aquaculture industry, offering consolidated information, contacts, technology, and mentorship to promote a higher success rate in farming.
- Continue the PMI expansion drive, establishing a firmer foothold in countries like Thailand and Vietnam. 

2026: Branding & Vision Implementation

- Strengthen PMI's brand identity to reflect and highlight its mission and causes.
- Work on making Indonesia recovgnizable as a hub for impact aquaculture investment by promoting best practices and industry education.

- Establish Indonesia as the global epicenter of impact aquaculture investment by reshaping the industry standards and making the country a prime choice for investors.
- Continue the emphasis on education, industry best practices, and expanding the PMI network.
